Lateral Plains
In the tough and competitive environment of IT, the
Ballarat Technology Park has been a defining factor in the success of Lateral
Plains.
Unparalleled facilities, partnerships and collaboration
with other resident companies and the University, the profile and exposure;
there is little to compare anywhere with the leverage and competitive advantage
that the Park offers.
It’s both a personal and professional environment in which
our team lives and works, offering a stability and flexibility that has allowed
us to build long terms plans for the future.

IBM Australia
My experience is that the University of Ballarat is a
pro-active and open university when it comes to working with industry.
University leaders are very approachable. They seek to value-add in their
negotiations and engagement. We are extremely pleased with the partnership.
When IBM moved to Ballarat, I thought it would be a smart
move to join them. We immediately felt at home in Ballarat. The people here are
so friendly and open-minded. It’s a great place to live and work. There’s a
real sense of community and we feel very proud to be part of it.

The University supported the project by upgrading their facilities and
undertaking research in a spirit of co-development.
The Technology Park is adjacent to UB, allowing us to maintain research
links and to work with near-by companies in a productive business cluster.

UNITI a subsidiary software company of Ballarat District
Nursing & Healthcare has recently moved to the Greenhill Enterprise Centre
with the objective of growing the company and entering new markets.
Within a few weeks, the UNITI team has already experienced
the opportunities to network with likeminded companies, sharing similar
technological and business experiences together with a real feel for peer
support.
Ballarat’s fantastic. Nothing’s more than 10 minutes away.
We ride our bikes to work … and can use the (UB) gym or have a swim at
lunchtime.

State Revenue Office
In June 2001, Premier Bracks announced that a major
purpose-built facility would be established in Ballarat for the State Revenue
Office and that 40 per cent of its activities would be relocated there from the
Melbourne CBD by March 2002. About 200
skilled long-term jobs would be created in Ballarat.
Nine months after Treasurer Brumby turned the first sod on
a green field site, he accompanied the Premier to open the fully-functional and
fully fitted out building, with an almost full complement of newly-recruited
and trained staff.
The move to Ballarat has been an outstanding success for
the SRO, not least because of the support of the Ballarat City Council, the
University of Ballarat as well as the enthusiasm of the local community. In 2008, roughly one half of the SRO's staff
are located in Ballarat and a full complement of its revenue management
functions are carried out here on the Technology Park, including core revenue
collections, taxpayer technical advice, investigations, organisational
development and IT. Our staff in Ballarat are young and dymanic.

IBM Australia / New Zealand
The principal reason IBM moved to the Park was that it was
in a regional location and we were looking for an area where the infrastructure
and ongoing cost base would be lower than in Sydney and Melbourne.
We also relocated because we needed to be near a strong
vocational university that could provide IT graduates.
The success of the Ballarat facility is such that we have
expanded our operation in excess of what we had thought was possible when it
first was implemented.
Although IBM has located to the Park for their own business
purposes, there are significant benefits that have flowed to the City of
Ballarat and also to the University because of our presence next to the campus.

Aviarc Australia
The Aviarc Development Suite is a standards-based software
development and deployment platform that is specifically designed to enable organisations to convert business ideas
to successful IT- supported innovations. Unlike other options which do not
allow the full and effective
participation of the business users, Aviarc allows the business user the
freedom to bring their ideas to life, in a way that fits within the existing
Enterprise IT framework.
When looking for a location to set up Aviarc Australia, our
decision criteria were:
-
Easy
access to major markets;
-
A good
local IT skills base;
-
A
low-risk start-up environment with headroom for growth; and of course
-
The cost
structure and flexibility to suit a potential high-growth company.
We started in a single person office in the University of
Ballarat Technology Park for the above reasons but soon found a key advantage:
a strong culture of business development support that extends from simple
networking to the introduction to qualified prospects for the use of our
software and services.
We are now providing development services from our offices
to some of the largest and most demanding users of IT in Australia, and are
bringing new product to market in the form of software development
methodologies, designed in, and implemented from, Ballarat.
Rather than just being a passive provider of
infrastructure, the Park has provided us with an active growth environment to
support our aspirations.
We couldn't be happier.

Centre for eCommerce and Communiations
The Centre for eCommerce and Communications has been a Park
tenant since 1998. It’s a beautiful location to work within, with a variety of
conference and meeting facilities, and of course the Innov8 Café.
The ‘cluster benefits’ of being in the Park help us
outsource work to other tenants. We are also
supported by reception services, event planning assistance and
professional development opportunities in the form of workshops and Park
events.
Informal support systems operate quite extensively within
the Park, with people sharing technical tips and tricks.
I think it would be
very difficult to find an alternate location that would satisfy our needs.
